The 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards Are Making History

And The 2020 Daytime Emmy Goes To… | Celebrity Page

Even before the trophies are handed out, the award show is breaking barriers.

They're the shows we wake up to and watch, in some cases, 5 times a week. From the morning news to talk shows, game shows, cooking and court shows...and of course those soap operas! Everybody has a favorite daytime series and now the best of them are being celebrated in a whole new way.

This year there will be no hugs, no long walks to the stage and probably...no pants! For the first time ever, the Daytime Emmys are being held virtually from home!

In addition to the virtual ceremony, the show returns to network TV. CBS is broadcasting the award show for the first time in years.

More firsts, how about the first trans performers to be nominated for Daytime Emmys?! Scott Turner Schofield, up for his performance in the Amazon Prime series Studio City. And Rowin Amone, nominated for her performance in Issa Rae's web series King Ester.

History also made for drag performers as Willam Belli becomes the first to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy, for his role in Netflix's EastSiders. That series up for a total of 8 awards, tying it with juggernauts like Sesame Street and The View.

This year's top nominee is General Hospital. The ABC soap nominated in 23 categories, followed by Days of Our Lives with 22 and The Young and the Restless with 21.

Daytime newcomer, Kelly Clarkson, picking up 7 nods to lead all talk shows. While icons like Alex Trebek and Judge Judy received recognition, yet again, as Alex continues to battle pancreatic cancer and Judy prepares to end her top-rated show.

We'll find out who gets to give a virtual thank you speech tomorrow, June 26th at 8pm ET/PT on CBS.
