NBC announces that the 2021 Billboard Music Awards are coming to air on Sunday, May 23rd at 8 p.m. ET with further announcements coming soon.

The Yearly Billboard Music Awards

The BBMAs are an acclaimed award show, due to its intense criteria to be nominated. Record-breaking artists are recognized and honored on this night, as the awards are determined by artist performance on the Billboard music charts, not an easy feat.

The music charts are set by fan interaction with albums and single hits. Such categories at the BBMAs include: Top New Artist (2020 Winner: Billie Eilish), Top Artist (2020 Winner: Post Malone), Top Song Sales Artist (2020 Winner: Lizzo), and so on.

2020 BBMAs

The 2020 BBMAs included performances from Demi Lovato, Post Malone, John Legend, and more.

Three-Peat Host, Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson has hosted three times for a reason, she never fails to entertain. Clarkson is well known for her medley performances of the year's iconic songs and one of her biggest fans includes award winner Khalid, who is always honored when included in the year's medley.

Known for its imminent importance in the music industry, it's no surprise that the BBMAs have been a home for debut releases and memorable performances.

Legendary Performances at the BBMAs

The BBMAs have premiered iconic collaborations and performances fans couldn't see coming, such as the reunion of the Jonas Brothers at the 2019 awards.

Fans anticipate further announcements, such as a set list of performers, who will be hosting, and, of course, the nominees of the year.

I'm doing something special today. I'm giving the usual TV show, movie, video game, and album, but this time, it's not under the radar, or new. It's my favorite things. Things where if people I love haven't seen them, I slap them across the face and make them watch. But, enough sappy stuff, let's get into it!
