Turner & Hooch, the 1989 Tom Hanks classic, has been revamped into a series on Disney+.

In this adaptation, Nickelodeon's Josh Peck plays Scott Tuner, the son of Hank's character, who follows in his footsteps by pursuing a career in law enforcement. After his father's passing, Turner inherits a new canine also named Hooch. Together, the man and dog detective team work to solve crimes.

Actress Lyndsy Fonesca plays Turner's (Peck's) sister in the reboot and talked to Celebrity Page TV about how the original film informs the reboot.

"It's a home movie of our father that we can have and relate to, and then obviously having 'Reg' on set, and playing the mayor and having that history that he knew him on and off camera helps ground the story," she said.

Reginald VelJohnson of Family Matters fame returns to the Turner & Hooch world and reprises his role as the David Sutton in the series. In the film, he played an investigator, but in the show, his character is now the mayor of Cypress Beach.

"Being in the movie was very special. I didn't realize it was going to be a big hit that it was. I feel the same way about the TV show. It's going to be a big hit; I really do. I think people are going to love the dog and love the actors in the show," VelJohnson told Celebrity Page.
Actress Carra Patterson is Jessica, Turner's partner, who told us about her character's bond to the canine Hooch.
"I'm Scott's partner, and she's the one that is really encouraging him to stick with it with Hooch. She gets Hooch before Scott does," Patterson said.

As for the logistics of working with an animal on set actor Anthony Ruivivar told Celebrity Page:

"I've got squeaky toys in my pockets, and I've got little meat treats hidden all over my suit."

Vanessa Lengies also learned a lot from working with the dog on set.

We had five different Hoochs. When I finished the show, I can tell you I know how to train a dog," Lengies said.

Given that Hanks' character is deceased in the show's storyline, he does not appear this season.

However, the cast still holds out hope that the two-time Oscar winner might make a cameo in the future.

"If it's popular enough, maybe T.H. might come through. I can't believe I just called him T.H.," actor Brandon Jay McLaren said.

"Come on the show. It's awesome," young actor Jeremy Maguire exclaimed in regard to Hanks making an appearance in future episodes.

Original film and Hanks aside, Disney+'s TV version of the story has a lot to offer. At least that's what Glee star Becca Tobin told us.

"It's going to be a massive hit. It's funny, it has heart, and it has Josh Peck, so we're off to the races."

Turner & Hooch begins streaming Wednesday, July 21 on Disney+.
