Beauty and the Beast | Favorite Part

Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda are teaming up to perform for a virtual fundraiser.

The Collaboration

Playbill revealed that the event will mark the celebration of Menken's recent EGOT status; he is best known for his musical contributions on Beauty and The Beast and The Little Mermaid. Menken along with Hamilton standout Lin-Manuel Miranda are currently working together on the music for the live-action Little Mermaid movie.

The event will be held tonight, and the agenda includes "Up Close and Personal With Alan Menken", a VIP chat and a paid fundraising program about the composer's successful career with Menken and longtime music producer Chris Montan, followed by a Q&A session. During that time, viewers will have the opportunity to contribute to tiered ticket and sponsorship options - including a chance to score exclusive Disney pieces and catering inspired by Beauty and the Beast!

There will then be a performance featuring Miranda. The performance will include some of Menken's best works, including "Under The Sea" (The Little Mermaid), "A Whole New World" (Aladdin) and "Be Our Guest" (Beauty and the Beast).

Contributions from the event will be donated toward education initiatives at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco, in which its classes are aimed at up-and-coming animators. The event will also make contributions toward the At-Promise Youth Animation Academy program, which serves Bay Area's youth population of high school students who are currently experiencing social and economic difficulties.

History Has Its Eyes On Alan Menken

Following Menken's musical contributions with Howard Ashman on the 1989 film The Little Mermaid, Menken was named a Disney Legend in 2002. He spread the love of music to many known films like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pochahontas, Newsies and Enchanted. His music also swarmed to the stage, with his theatrical contributions including God Bless You, Mr. Rosenwater, Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act, A Bronx Tale, and The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz alongside theatrical adaptations of beloved Disney films.

Make sure to tune in tonight at 5PM PST (8PM EST) exclusively on WaltDisney.org/Menken!
