Amanda Seyfried Heads To Trial As Elizabeth Holmes In New Series 'The Dropout' | Celebrity Page

Hulu's latest true-crime series, The Dropout, brings together a star-studded cast to tell the real life story of CEO Elizabeth Holmes.

It's a new series that's happening in real time!

Elizabeth Holmes was convicted on charges of fraud this past January. The former CEO claimed to have invented a new medical device called the Edison that could perform rapid blood tests to detect illnesses with only the prick of a finger.

However, the promise of such technology was soon discovered to be nothing more than an illusion.

Amanda Seyfriend, who plays the role of Elizabeth Holmes, is joined by Emmy winner and Shameless star, William H. Macy.

Macy underwent quite the transformation as Richard Fuisz, an entrepreneur and one of Holmes' neighbors who helped her company, Theranos.

"I think it's a greek tragedy. I think Elizabeth had the best of intentions when she dropped out of Stanford and decided to build this device. She wanted to make people's lives better and save lives. At a point, all that money and all that attention... she went to the dark side," Macy said.

Joining the cast is 13 Reasons Why actor Dylan Minnette, who stars as Tyler Shultz. Shultz, a former Theranos employee, acted as the original whistleblower in the case and reported the company's suspicious methods to regulators.

"I think it took a bit of time for Tyler to sort of be let in enough to realize that they were manipulating all this data and lying about the technology," Minnette said.

To top off the impressive talent is Sam Waterston as George Shultz, a former Secretary of State who was also the grandfather of Tyler Shultz.

"Be skeptical when people promise things, especially things that you would really like to have happen. The more you want it, the more you should look hard at it," Waterston said.

The Dropout is streaming now on Hulu.
