It was announced by ABC on May 21 that the hit comedy show has been renewed for a fifth season. The good news comes a week after the season four finale on May 13. It's no surprise that the show is seeing another season, as the comedy has continued to perform solidly for the network.
What 'American Housewife' Is All About
The series chronicles the daily life of Katie Otto, a wife and mother who tries to maintain her sense of self and family while dealing with the wealthy, pretentious, arrogant housewives and their privileged children in her new hometown of Westport, Connecticut.
How 'American Housewife' Did In The Ratings
The fourth season of 'American Housewife' is averaged a 0.59 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.23 million viewers. The series aired most of its fourth season on Friday nights before moving back to Wednesdays (where it aired for the first two seasons).
Where Season Four Left Off
Season four was originally expected to consist of 21 episodes, but concluded with 20 as a result of Disney and ABC Studios shutting down production due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We left off with Katie confronting a classmate's mom when she suspects that Anna-Kat is being bullied at school - and in a subplot, Taylor (Meg Donnelly, Zombies) sets out to complete the final item on her life skills checklist so that she can attend her senior prom with her boyfriend, Tripp (Peyton Meyer, Girl Meets World).
When Season Five Will Air, And What Can be Expected

Season five might chronicle some more adventures in the life of the super honest stay-at-home mother Katie Otto and her flawed family. We can expect Katie to shame her fat-shamer and tone-deaf neighbors with the help of her best friends, Doris and Angela (Ali Wong and Carly Hughes).
The Cinemaholic reports that Katy Mixon will return as Katie. Diedrich Bader will also come back to play Greg. Meg Donnelly will reprise the character of Taylor, Julia Butters will return to play Anna-Kat, and Daniel DiMaggio will rejoin as Oliver. We expect the new season to premiere sometime in 2021.
