Sonia Isabelle gives us a behind the scenes look at the new Disney Plus movie Artemis Fowl!

Author Eoin Colfer Tells All

Irish writer Eoin Colfer started the Artemis Fowl series in 2001, writing a total of eight books for the young adult series with the last book, Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian, published in 2012. Colfer later went on to write two more books as a spin-off to the series, called The Fowl Twins. The Artemis Fowl series follows a 12 year-old boy genius who must restore his family's fortune. His adventures involve underground secrets of the world and the help of some "extremely high-tech-fairies." Colfer describes what he had envisioned for the movie and says:

"I just fell in love with this idea of a 12 year-old Bond villain who discovers this world of technology and magic and it just clicked in my head and here we are eight books later and, you know, tens of millions of copies."

"I'm really interested to have the audience lean forward into a story that just might be true, The idea that there might just be something in those ancient myths that may have a deeper meaning. So I'm excited to take people on that adventure. "

Cast and Crew

In his interview, Eoin Colfer talks about working with Kenneth Branagh as the director, and says:

"I'm very thrilled to have Kenneth Branagh involved. It was almost too good to be true. The books are exhilarating. It travels to different worlds. Some are quite fantastical. Jim Clay has created from the ground up these extraordinary sets."

Ferdia Shaw stars in the movie as the young Artemis Fowl with Colin Farrell as his father. The cast also includes Josh Gad, Judi Dench, Nonso Anosie, and Lara McDonnell.

Because of the pandemic, Disney decided not to release the film in theaters. Instead, Artemis Fowl is now available to watch on Disney Plus.
