'Beauty and the Beast' Limited Musical Series Gets Green-Light from Disney+

Beauty and the Beast Disney Hollywood

Return to the magical world of Beauty and the Beast, but this time with Lefou and Gaston.

Let the music and magic commence! A tale as old as time is back just in time for the worldwide 30th anniversary of the beloved animated classic, but this time with an exciting new twist.

Disney just gave the green-light for this eight-episode series that will be a prequel to their 2017 live-action film Beauty and the Beast.

Let's hear it for Josh Gad and Luke Evans reprising their roles as LeFou and Gaston in this up-and-coming musical series.

With actress Briana Middleton joining the cast as LeFou's stepsister Tilly, the series will follow the unlikely trio as they uncover a surprising revelation from Tilly's past and go on an unexpected journey filled with comedy, adventure, and romance.

The musical series is developed, executive-produced and written by Gad, Edward Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz, each serving as a co-showrunner.

EGOT Award-winning composer Alan Menken will serve as an executive producer, in addition to his original soundtrack being featured for the new series. Lyrics for the first episode will be written by Oscar-nominee Glenn Slater.

President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Branded Television, Gary Marsh, shared in a statement:

"For anyone who's ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends and partners, or how a mystical enchantress came to cast that fateful spell on the prince-turned-beast, this series will finally provide those answers…and provoke a whole new set of questions."

Disney+ and ESPN+ President, Michael Paull, added:

"For three decades, this tale as old as time has inspired generations of fans around the world. We can't wait to welcome our guests back to the magical and musical world of "Beauty and the Beast" for an all new chapter with LeFou, Gaston, and a fantastic new cast of characters."

The Beauty and the Beast limited musical series is set to begin production next spring 2022.
