2020 has been tough, but Independence Day Weekend is here! Since this 4th of July will look different this year, we picked out some of the best movies to watch over the holiday weekend.


Captain America

Behold the birth of the first Avenger, scrappy but small Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) enlists in the military but gets rejected because of his size. He gets accepted in an experimental program and becomes a super solider, Captain America.

The Sandlot

When new kid Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) moves to the neighborhood, he gets taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy group of friends who like to play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures, including the Fourth of July scene.

Independence Day

Will Smith, fighter pilots, aliens, and a title in Independence Day? Yes please.

National Treasure

Benjamin Gates (Nicholas Cage) is a historian and amateur cryptologist who finds a coded map on the back of the Declaration of Independence which points to the location of a "national treasure".

Born on the Fourth of July

The biography of Ron Kovic (played by Tom Cruise) follows a soldier that became paralyzed during the Vietnam War. Through the film, he becomes an anti-war and pro-human rights political activist showing that being patriotic has many meanings.

Hamilton

Hamilton is the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, who was born on the Caribbean island of Nevis and immigrated to the US. On July 3rd, fans can watch the musical on Disney+.

A League of Their Own

The All-American Girls' Professional Baseball League was founded in 1943, when most of the men of baseball were away fighting in World War II. Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) play a competitive pair of sisters in this film, loosely adapted from the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

Forrest Gump

The 1995 Best Picture winner tells the story of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) who influences history and popular culture through experiencing historic events of the 20th century first hand.

Glory

Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick) leads the US Civil War's first all-black volunteer company, fighting prejudices of both his own Union army and the Confederates. Shaw puts together a strong, proud unit, including the escaped slave Trip (Denzel Washington) and the wise gravedigger John Rawlins (Morgan Freeman).
