Black Widow Featurette

With only hours to go until Black Widow releases on Disney+, Marvel has released a short video about the history of the character and the intentions of the studio. In it, actress Scarlett Johansson and Marvel president Kevin Feige each give their thoughts on Black Widow's journey in between clips of the film, some of which has not been featured in previous trailers.

"We've been waiting to tell the story of Natasha Romanoff for years. It was one of the great post-Infinity Saga opportunities. How to evolve into Phase 4," says Feige, who produced the film. "We are sowing the seeds of new characters into the future of the MCU." There's little doubt about who this could be, as the video extensively features Yelena Belova (played by Little Women co-star Florence Pugh), a zesty sister figure to Johansson's character who shares the Black Widow name.

In Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson returns in what may be her final outing as the beloved super spy, but the featurette makes it clear that this movie is more than just a sendoff. Rachel Weisz, who starred in The Favourite, plays a mysterious character with her own claim to the Black Widow moniker. She briefly appears in the featurette to say "Marvel's created something extraordinary".

Black Widow is out now in select theaters and on Disney+ for premiere access viewers on July 9th, 2021.
