Don't forget to (watch) 'Call Your Mother!'

It's the phrase we all know and love (well, not really). Call Your Mother. This is typically accompanied with a frantic sense of urgency. However, now ABC is refashioning the infamous expression to tell a story of an empty nest mother's journey parenting her two grown children.

"Freddy, call me" Jean Raines scolds on the phone after her son sends her to voicemail over and over again. Emmy-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick, who plays the titular role, sat down with Advocate Channel to give us an inside scoop on her character.

"I feel like I've gotten the second great role of my lifetime on TV and that just doesn't happen."

The star who previously appeared on TNT's crime drama, The Closer, as a deputy will now take on a comedic role, showcasing another side to her multifaceted acting abilities. The mom battles giving her children the autonomy that they deeply crave as they enter their young adult life. Her screen children are played by Rachel Sennott and Joey Bragg. Other high-profile actors in the sitcom include Austin Crute, Sherri Shepherd, and Patrick Brammall.

After her son does not return her phone call for four days, Jean decides to pack her belongings and move across the country to be closer to her kids. However, Sedgwick shares that people should not underestimate the strength of her character.

"She really is someone who is capable of being alone. She's not one of those pathetic, needy...people."

The star has a life of her own behind the screens, having two children with husband Kevin Bacon. She is bringing her own maternal love to her home screen family.

"Jean is a real mensch. Jean is really funny. She often doesn't try to be funny, she just is funny. I'm kind of like that."

Check out the premiere of Call Your Mother at 9:30 pm EST on ABC.
