The Bronx native is covering funeral and burial expenses for the 17 victims of a tragic blaze that broke out in a Bronx apartment building.

Cardi B has offered to pay the funeral expenses for victims of a deadly fire in the Bronx, New York.

Cardi is working with the Mayor's Fund's Bronx Fire Relief Fund to help victims' families and cover repatriation expenses, as some victims will be buried in the Gambia, a country in West Africa.

They are also ensuring that the families of victims will be included in her donation so "that the final wishes for their loved ones were met."

Cardi B, a Bronx native, said in a statement,

"I'm extremely proud to be from the Bronx, and I have lots of family and friends who live and work there still."
"So, when I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal. I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy."

Officials said that seventeen people, eight of them children, died from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out on Jan. 9 at an apartment building in the Bronx.

The state of New York announced this week that it would be granting a $2 million fund for the victims.

The American Red Cross is also helping victims of the fire and is currently accepting donations. Those interested in donating can do so here.
