Barbara Davis turned 90 years old in October and her work dates back to 1977 with her establishment of the Children's Diabetes Foundation. Davis has made a remarkable impact for those battling Type 1 Diabetes, and celebrities came together for a virtual Carousel of Hope Ball to honor Davis's accomplishments and to raise funds.

Carousel of Hope Ball

The Carousel of Hope was first held in 1978 and is traditionally held every two years in Los Angeles, California at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The event has raised over $110 million towards finding a cure for diabetes.

This year the ball had to go virtual, but that didn't stop celebrities from making an appearance and helping raise funds.

A-List Group of Guests

The guest list for the event included, but was not limited to: Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Usher, Sir Michael Caine, Jennifer Hudson, Lionel Richie, and Sam Smith.

"And talk about famous friends, the night concluding with a star studded performance of Barbara's favorite song, 'That's What Friends Are For'."

The Philanthropist Barbara Davis

In addition to the biannual Carousel of Hope, these group of stars also came together to celebrate Barbara Davis's 90th birthday.

Davis has greatly impacted the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes and ensuring that they receive care, regardless of their coverage. Davis began the Carousel in 1978 to raise money for juvenile diabetes.

Singer Usher especially thanks Davis for her work in juvenile diabetes, as his son lives with the condition.

"I've had to rely on you and your team and your daughter's support to better understand this reality of living with diabetes, or at least, juvenile diabetes for my son."

Davis has devoted her life to helping others and her work does not go unnoticed. Guest of the ball, Oprah, thanked Davis saying,

"I just wanted to wish you again, Happy 90th Birthday, and to congratulate you on a life so well lived."

Barbara Davis is a powerhouse of a woman and an inspirational philanthropist. She has made a magnificent impact on those living with diabetes through her foundation, ball, and research center that have been running for decades.
