After sweeping the 2020 Oscars with his masterpiece Parasite, director Bong Joon Ho might have found his next project.
According to Deadline, Bong is currently in talks to write and direct a film based on the unreleased, upcoming novel by Edward Ashton, Mickey7. The plot follows protagonist Mickey7, who is the seventh iteration of his original self. Sent to colonize an ice world, every time he dies on a dangerous mission, he is regenerated in a new body with "most" memories in tact.
As the novel is set to come out early 2022, no production has begun on the film. However, when presented with the manuscript, Bong was reportedly "immediately interested." Many A-List celebrities were after the role, but Robert Pattinson apparently impressed both executives and Bong himself in their meeting. Bong feels he's "perfect" for the role.
If Pattinson accepts and is cast, Mickey7 will be his first movie coming off DC's upcoming blockbuster, The Batman, with Pattinson in the starring role. It will also be another adaptation under Bong's belt.
Bong is, of course, notorious for his work on adaptations, often changing the source material for a fresh framing. A science fiction project seems to be the perfect fit for him to once again show off his writing and directing skills, and to experiment with story.
The Batman will drop March 4, and the novel Mickey7 will release some time within the next few months. As for the film, only time will tell.
In a sneak preview for A&E's upcoming docuseries Secrets of Playboy, Holly Madison shines some light on life in the mansion, claiming she and some of the other bunnies felt they were being "gaslit" and "isolated" from the outside world.
Madison shares with viewers what it was really like to live in the renowned manor alongside the late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. She eluded to the point that everything wasn’t what it seemed from the outside looking in.
Holly explains in the snippet,
"The reason I think the mansion was very cult-like looking back on it is because we were all kind of gaslit and expected to think of Hef as like this really good guy, and you started to feel like, 'Oh, he's not what they say in the media, he's just a nice man.”
There was always someone in the mansion, but Madison claims she often felt alone. She said,
"Another thing that reminds me of a cult is how easy it is to get so isolated from the outside world there, you had a 9 o'clock curfew. You were encouraged to not have friends over. You weren't really allowed to leave unless it was like a family holiday."
Madison claimed that she originally wanted to keep her waitressing job so that if her Playboy career didn't work out, she’d have "something easy to go back to". Even though she only worked on one day a week, Madison explained,
“Hugh said it made him jealous, and he would appreciate it if I would quit my job. So instead, we were given $1,000 a week as an allowance."
Playboy released a previous statement,
"After nearly 70 years in business, there are many elements of Playboy's long history of which we are immensely proud, and there are elements we find unworthy of our principles. Today, we strive to live up to the positive aspects of our legacy, and are proud of the work we have done in recent years to stand for freedom and equality while advancing our mission of pleasure for all. The Hefner family is no longer associated with Playboy."
