Dakota Johnson to Star in Upcoming 'Spider-man' Film

The actress has officially become the first woman superhero in Sony's Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After an already successful year with her acclaimed role in the Lost Daughter, Dakota Johnson is back for a new project, this time in spandex.

Following Marvel's smash hit Spider-man: No Way Home, fans are hungry for more content with their favorite webslinger, as are the studios. A new film has been announced by Sony that will feature comic character, Madame Web, played by none other than the Social Network' and Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson.

In the comics, Madame Web is usually depicted as an elderly woman attached to a web-shaped life support system. Because of her condition of myasthenia gravis, she has never actively fought any villains, but has mentored Peter Parker and the Spider Women. Sources claim that the nature of Madame Web's character and the project are subject to change.

It's still unclear which (if any) beloved Spider-man will appear, but fans speculate that due to the nature of Madame Web's clairvoyant abilities, she could theoretically be the Doctor Strange of Sony's universe.

The screenplay was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, and will be directed by S.J. Clarkson. No start or release date have been given yet. If Johnson goes forward with the project, she will be the first woman superhero to appear in Sony's Marvel Cinematic Universe.
