Daniel Radcliffe to Play 'Weird Al' Yankovic in Upcoming Biopic

Harry Potter star gets weird in the upcoming film about the legendary musician's life.

Audrey Hepburn, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley---now add "Weird Al" Yankovic to the list of prominent figures with an upcoming biopic.


Five-time Grammy-winning musician "Weird Al" Yankovic is heading to the big screen for the first time. Often hailed as one of the greatest artists of all time, Yankovic is one of the only performers with Top 40 hits in every decade since the 1980s. Now, he's co-writing a movie about his life, alongside Funny or Die's Eric Appel.

The press release for WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story dropped today, advertising the upcoming project.

“The biopic holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.”

And who will be portraying the legendary figure? None other than Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe.

Often known for taking unusual roles, this task is no different for Radcliffe. He claims that his success in childhood gave him the financial freedom to take roles based on what speaks to him, regardless of the paycheck.

He shares about the upcoming project,

“A lot of what I watch and what I grew up watching was comedy. I’ve done comedy onstage, so some people have seen me do it. But not for an audience this wide. So I was really excited to try and show that side of myself as an actor.”

“I never thought that I’d make a living being Weird Al. I thought I’d have to grow up and be an adult. That hasn’t happened yet.”

A release date for the film has not yet been announced. WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story will be available to stream exclusively on Roku TV.
