'Don't Look Up' Director Adam McKay Reveals Filming Secrets

The director gets real on some details behind the filming of the hit Netflix movie.

Director Adam McKay got real in an interview with Insider on January 13th about the film and its reflection on our country today.

In the interview, McKay reflects back on the media tour of the film and how DiCaprio's editing notes actually led to the film's ending.

He also revealed that McKay's daughter came up with Ariana Grande's iconic roast to DiCaprio, calling him an "old f***".

Here is a direct quote from the interview McKay had with Insider.

Insider: "You really nailed the media; to the point; that the press for this movie mirrors what happens to Randall (DiCaprio) and Kate (Lawrence) when they go through their media tour to warn the world of the catastrophic comet. Has that dawned on you?"

Adam McKay: [Sighs] "Every waking second of the media tour. And let me clarify, I understand people have jobs to do. I'm not pointing the finger at any individual. It's more of a systemic criticism. But the whole experience from getting aggregated on the Ferrell stuff, the G.O.A.T. thing, I even tweeted about the movie and how people who like it are freaked out about the world and that got flipped into "if you don't like the movie you don't care about climate." And it's like, good Lord!"

McKay is the director of acclaimed films like Step Brothers, The Big Short, and Vice. He most recently directed Don't Look Up, a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

The film was released onto Netflix on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2021. Now, it is Netflix's 2nd biggest film of all time.

You can watch Don't Look Up on Netflix.
