Hulu's 'Dopesick' Takes A Deep Dive Into The Opioid Crisis | Celebrity Page

With a star-studded cast and a story that doesn't shy away from telling all sides, Hulu's Dopesick delivers a new look at the ongoing crisis.

Dopesick examines the cause of the worst drug epidemic in American history. We sat down with executive producer, Danny Strong, to hear what he had to say about the new limited series:

"What drew me was I was shocked, stunned, appalled, dismayed by how a company run by a single family could lie their way to creating a national health crisis."

The legendary Michael Keaton pulls double duty in the drama as the lead actor as well one of the executive producers.

Keaton's co-stars include Peter Sarsgaard, Kaitlyn Dever, Rosario Dawson, Jake McDorman, Will Poulter, and John Hoogenakker. We sat down with the stars to hear what the show meant to them.

"I have had people in my life that were absolutely directly affected by this. It's been a significant thing in my family. So I felt like a narrative is a very digestible easier way to get more people to follow a complex topic."

That was Sarsgaard on his personal experience coming into the role. Hoogenakker, who plays an attorney working with Sarsgaard's character, had this to say about the process:

"With something as important and as pervasive as the opioid crisis is in this country... In order to really sort of get our arms around it, we're trying for the average viewer at home to see themselves in the people that they're seeing on television."

McDorman added:

"The public perception of someone who might get hooked on, say, opioids was "they're a drug addict, they're not like me." This should eradicate that doubt and make you angry."

The 8-part limited series provides a variety of unique perspectives in a story that isn't often touched upon in mainstream media.
