The Shows That Helped Us Get Through The Last Year

The Shows That Helped Us Get Through The Last Year

Celebrity Page TV

It's been a wild year for television. With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing about new storylines and causing production delays, the confluence of factors gave birth to some of the best TV ever made.

As all of us were spending more time at home in 2020, there has not been a shortage of great television. From network TV and cable channels all the way to the streaming giants, you'd be hard pressed to find something not worth watching.

To celebrate the year in TV and in light of the 2021 Emmy Awards taking place this Sunday, we're taking a look back at some of our favorites from the medium over the last year.

The Flight Attendant

With the COVID pandemic came various travel restrictions and protocols, leaving many of us to daydream of hopping on a plane and jetting off to a picture perfect destination. Since daydreams are only daydreams, The Flight Attendant on HBO Max offered viewers an escape to a more glamorous but turbulent storyline.

The Flight Attendant is up for nine Emmy nominations this year.

PEN 15

The past year had many going back in time to middle school years through the magic of TV. PEN15 on Hulu is reminding viewers of the good (and awkward) times of those early teenage years.

PEN15 is up for three Emmy nominations this year.

The Kominsky Method

With A-List actors and a compelling storyline, The Kominsky Method brings together comedy and the complexities of family conflict. When speaking to star Lisa Edelstein about her role on the hit series, she told us how the script automatically drew her in:

"...and that's how you know that you want to do a job is that you read the script and think "this show cannot go on without me."

The Kominsky Method is up for six Emmy nominations this year.

This Is Us

Arguably one of the most successful series over the last decade, NBC's This Is Us has tugged on the heartstrings of viewers over the last five seasons. With the sixth and final season premiering in 2022, we spoke to star Eris Baker about the tight knit cast. She tells us that the stars aren't just colleagues, but a family:

"...I still can't believe I get to be on such an amazing show and I get to be a part of of the Pearson family. We're a family in real life..."

This is Us is nominated for 6 Emmys this year including Best Drama Series.

Tune in to the 2021 Emmy Awards Sunday September 19th on CBS to see if these shows bring home any hardware.
