Cedric The Entertainer Announced As Host Of The Emmys

Cedric The Entertainer

The Emmys will return this fall on CBS with none other than Cedric The Entertainer as host!

The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards have found their host!

That's right, A-list comedian Cedric the Entertainer will be hosting this year's Emmys. Better yet, this year's show will return with a live audience, as opposed to last year's broadcast which was virtual as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a press release, executive producer Reginald Hudlin said:

"I'm very excited to be returning to the Emmys. Last year, the restrictions of Covid freed me and the awesome talents at Done+ Dusted to do a show that was different than any other award show. We don't plan on repeating ourselves, but we certainly want to try some new ideas that could only be done on the Emmys."

It's safe to say that Hudlin is confident that this year's Emmys will be better than ever, and with Cedric the Entertainer on board, you know you're in for a treat.

The television academy took to Twitter on Monday morning to share the good news. The announcement comes just one day before the nomination announcements which will be take place here on Tuesday at 11:30am ET. The tweet was shortly followed by another tweet posted to the CBS twitter account which showed Cedric opening his invitation to host:

In the video, Cedric visibly can't contain his excitement and he says "I ain't even a Jimmy" poking fun at Jimmy Kimmel who has hosted multiple times and Jimmy Fallon who hosted in 2010. In a press release, Cedric emphasized what it means to him to host the Emmy's:

"Since I was a little boy huddled up next to my grandmother, television has always been my reliable friend, so it is an enormous honor for me to host this year's Emmy Awards. Throughout the roller-coaster of a year that we have all lived through, television has helped us stay connected as a society like never before. It not only entertained us, but as it always has, it helped to open our eyes, educate us, and hopefully brought about a better understanding of who we are as a people. I can't wait to take the stage to celebrate all of the great shows and performances that made us laugh, cry, dance and sing over the past year."

It truly has been an unforgettable year to say the least and Cedric is determined to let this year's Emmys serve as a celebration of television. Cedric is no stranger to CBS; in fact, he pulls double duty as executive producer and star of the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood. The fourth season is scheduled to premiere the day after the Emmys air.

Tune in to CBS to catch Cedric the Entertainer as the host of the Emmy Awards on Sunday September 19th and as the star of The Neighborhood on Monday September 20th.
