Today marks National Energy Conservation Day and these celebrities are some of Hollywood's biggest sustainable energy and environment protection advocates.

From Meryl Streep to Leonardo DiCaprio, these celebrities have held the chairs of various environment organizations and publicly speak on energy conservation and global activism.


Meryl Streep

Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy award winner Meryl Streep began her environmental advocacy in the 1980's with the Natural Resource Defense Council. Streep went on to create Mothers & Others with Wendy Gordon advocating for tougher pesticide standards in 1989 and has since been involved in environmental activism.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo isn't only an Emmy award winning actor, he is also one of the many creators of In This Climate (2017), a documentary about the environment and climate change.

Ruffalo is also a founder of The Solutions Project, an organization advocating for sustainable energy while elevating women and leaders of color. Ruffalo has also been awarded numerous environmental leadership awards.

Arnold Shwarzenegger

The former California governor and actor Arnold Shwarzenegger advocates for alternative energy and argues that regardless of one's belief in climate change, a better energy solution is necessary.

Emma Thompson

Channing Tatum has worked with PlantMed, an organization dedicated to working with indigenous peoples in the Amazon, which is the world's epicenter for medicinal plants. PlantMed's scientists and the people of the Amazon work together to halt the destruction of the rainforest.

Gisele Bündchen

Gisele Bündchen dedicates her social media to giving thanks to Mother Nature. Bündchen has been awarded the Best Green International Celebrity Award in 2011. The model also launched Projeto Agua Limpa (Clean Water Project), which assists conservation efforts in the Amazon.

In 2009, Bündchen was designated as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program. Bündchen continues to support such causes and raise environmental awareness today,

The Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy award winning actor established the Make It Right foundation in 2007, which built environmentally friendly homes for Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans.

The Ad Astra (2019) star publicly speaks up for alternative energy solutions stating that this is the only way the Earth can have a future.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio dedicates his entire social media platform to advocacy of various movements. From voting to environment protection, DiCaprio is the example of using one's platform for the betterment of all.

The Oscar and Golden Globe winner is a leader in the fight for climate change. DiCaprio established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998, a foundation dedicated to promoting environmental awareness.

DiCaprio fights with the people and for the people, marching at the 2017 People's Climate March and using his status to have sit downs with President Trump on environmental protection.
