'Acapulco' Breaks Barriers With Latinx Representation On Apple TV+

Delivering strong identities and powerful inspiration, Acapulco is Apple TV+'s latest comedy series to introduce more authentic Latinx representation.

Acapulco stars Máximo Gallardo, played by Eugenio Derbez, as he reflects on his 20-something-year old life during the 80's.

Scoring a job working as a cabana boy for one of the most popular resorts in Acapulco, it isn't long until Máximo realizes there's much more to the job than just serving guests.

The show is available in both English and Spanish, ensuring that all viewers can enjoy the vibrant and vivacious Hispanic community during the 80's.

Not only is Derbez acting as the lead role of Máximo in Acapulco, but he is also working as executive producer of the series.

"If I was able to produce something in this country, I would try to break stereotypes and portray the nice side of my country and the real one also," Derbez said.

Enrique Arrizon, who plays the 80's version of Máximo, also touched upon the character's impactful story.

"He has that opportunity to succeed and to help his family," Arrizon said.

Chord Overstreet, who plays the resort owner, further elaborated on the show's important representation.

"One of the biggest eye openers for me... was how little I knew about another culture's entertainment. I think it's been a really cool, eye-opening experience," Overstreet said.

While following Máximo's humble beginnings, the series also shows viewers that obstacles should never impede the drive to succeed.

Jessica Collins, who plays Diane in the series, touched on this sentiment.

"The series really is about your dreams, and following your dreams, and what price are you willing to pay for those dreams to come true," Collins said.

Fernando Carsa and Camila Perez also chimed in on the show's core theme.

"Just go for it, just go for it, and don't get discouraged, just always stay positive."

Make sure to watch Acapulco, now streaming on Apple TV+.
