It's October and spooky season is here! Now's the perfect time to catch up on some of your favorite horror and family-friendly Halloween classics. Here's our picks for some family-friendly movies to check out!

Goosebumps

R. L. Stine is a name you may be familiar with as he is the man behind the Goosebumps book series. Jack Black stars as R. L. Stine and 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette joins in for Goosebumps. In this movie, Minnette stars as Zach who teams up with R. L. Stine's daughter after the writer's imaginary demons and monsters are set free on the town of Madison, Delaware. One reason to check this out is because Black is hilarious in his role and the movie isn't so scary for kids.

Casper

Brad Silberling's 1995 movie Casper tells the story of a not-so-scary ghost. Afterlife therapist, Dr. Harvey (Bill Pullman) and his daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) meet the friendly young computer-generated ghost named Casper after moving into their new home in order to get rid of evil and wicked spirits. The movie is based on the Harvey Comics character of Casper the Friendly Ghost, created by Seymore Reit and Joe Oriolo.

Frankenweenie

You can't celebrate Halloween without watching a Tim Burton movie. Burton is best known for The Nightmare Before Christmas, but Burton's 2012 stop motion animated feature Frankenweenie is an underrated take on Frankenstein. The movie tells the story of a young boy and his best friend, his dog. When his dog suddenly passes away, he attempts to bring him back to life through a powerful science experiment. The film is a heartfelt story about friendship and trust me...you are going to shed a tear.

Halloweentown

How would you like to travel to a town where it's Halloween everyday! The Halloweentown franchise is a quintessential Disney Channel Halloween favorite! Marnie Piper (Kimberly J. Brown) discovers she is a witch and travels to save a small town, Halloweentown as it is filled with supernatural creatures such as goblins, skeletons, ghosts and more! A scene stealer in this movie is Marnie's sweet grandmother, Aggie Cromwell played by Debbie Reynolds. This movie is a safe, spooky watch regardless of what age you are.

Hocus Pocus

If you haven't heard of Kenny Ortega's Hocus Pocus you are missing out! This movie is about Max (Omri Katz) who moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening evil and diabolical witches played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy who were executed in the 17th century. The movie has become a cult classic and audiences can't get enough of the Sanderson sisters.

Hotel Transylvania

2012's Hotel Transylvania has mega an all-star cast including Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, Fran Drescher, David Spade, and more! Dracula, voiced by Sandler, operates the exclusive Hotel Transylvania faraway from the human world where he goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count's teenage daughter. Director of the movie, Genndy Tartakovsky is wildly popular for creating Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Star Wars: Clone Wars. The film is goofy, fast-paced and fun for the entire family. If you enjoyed the first movie then you'll love all the other movies in the series.

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is the 1984 action, comedy starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver. Ivan Reitman's classic is about three former parapsychology professors who set up shop as a unique ghost removal service. This flick has plenty of laughs and fun that tells the story of friendship. The movie went on to make a sequel and in 2016 a reboot with a female crew. Now audiences are anxiously waiting for the release of son- Jason Reitman's reboot set to be released next year.
