Former Florida Governor Candidate Andrew Gillum Announces He Is Bisexual

The former Tallahassee Mayor was a Democratic candidate for Governor of Florida.

Former Tallahassee Mayor and Florida Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum recently came out as bisexual in an emotional interview with journalist Tamron Hall.

Gillum appeared on Hall's newly syndicated talk show this morning to sit down and talk about his time away from the public following a recent scandal.

Back in February, Gillum was found "inebriated" on the floor of a hotel room while police officers were responding to a possible drug overdose. A photo of the scene was leaked and the former Mayor immediately announced he would be stepping away from his work and entering rehab. The image showed Gillum unconscious on the floor. Two other men were in the room.

Gillum told Hall:

"When that photo came out, I didn't recognize the person on the floor. That was not anything more than a person being at their most vulnerable state- unconscious, having given no consent and someone decided to use a moment where I was literally laying in my own vomit."

Hall later spoke with Joy Reid on MSNBC where she revealed the interview was "heartbreaking."

"I interviewed not only Andrew, but his wife R Jai. At one point in time she sat alone with me, revealing things that he didn't even know...I think it's one of the most compelling interviews I've ever done."

Later in the discussion between Gillum and Tamron Hall, he opened up about his sexuality, stating:

"To be very honest with you, when you didn't ask the question, you put it out there is whether or not I identify as gay. And the answer is I don't identify as gay, but I do identify as bisexual, and that is something that I have never shared publicly before."

Andrew Gillum served as the Mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2018. He says he will continue to lean on his wife and therapy as he works through this difficult time.
