Watch the First 'Game of Thrones' Spin-Off Series Trailer: 'House of the Dragon'

House of the Dragon | Official Teaser Trailer | HBO Max

The dragons are coming!

HBO just dropped the first trailer for the "Game of Thrones" prequel series, "House of the Dragon." The series, based on George R.R. Martin's "Fire & Blood," is set two hundred years before the events of "Game of Thrones," telling the story of House Targaryen.

The clips will have viewers revisiting familiar houses as their members pledge fealty to King Viserys Targaryen, who has named his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra, as his heir. Even though she is of pure Valyrian blood and a dragon rider, the Princess knows "men would sooner put the realm to the torch, than see a woman ascend the iron throne."

The rest of the trailer promises intense action sequences, giving audiences a glimpse at the fire-breathing beasts the Targaryen clan prides themselves on. It concludes,

"History does not remember blood. It remembers names."

The series stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D'Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, "The Sea Snake."

"House of the Dragon" premieres August 21 on HBO Max. Check out the newly released character posters below!
