The World Celebrates Godzilla Day

Godzilla Day

Long live the King of the Monsters!

On Wednesday November 3rd, Godzilla turned 67 and the world is celebrating the birthday of the classic character. Godzilla has graced the big screen over three dozen times since his debut in 1954, making Godzilla the longest running film franchise ever. The iconic original film, Gojira, was a hit in Japan and only grew in popularity when it hit the States. Since then, there have been several sequels and reboots. One notable American reboot came in 2014 and it starred Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. This film went on to create the Legendary MonsterVerse.

Godzilla went on to appear in other films in the MonsterVerse including the sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which starred Millie Bobby Brown. And of course, the King most recently appeared in this year's blockbuster hit Godzilla vs. Kong which grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide. Clearly, 67 years later, Godzilla still reigns supreme.

As far as birthday celebrations go, movie-goers are in for a treat. In honor of Godzilla turning 67, Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas will be premiering a 4K restoration of the 1954 original film that started it all. Click here for more information.

Happy Birthday Godzilla!
