Happy Groundhog Day! According to Punxsutawney Phil, winter will linger on.

Happy Groundhog Day! According to Punxsutawney Phil, winter will linger on, so get cozy and pop in some of these Groundhog Day-esque films. Hopefully, this will be a one day excursion or maybe you too will get stuck in the Groundhog Day time loop. Groundhog Day (1993) set a trend of time loop based films that force the protagonist to figure out what they are doing wrong in life. These films have almost everyone confused until the very end when science, or love, finds a solution.

Groundhog Day (1993)

Starring Bill Murray, Groundog Day follows Phil, a cynical weatherman, who is stuck living Groundhog Day over and over again. A story of love and comedy is told in this Harold Ramis film, making it an obvious flick for the underrated holiday.

50 First Dates (2004)

The classic early 2000's film 50 First Dates features the beloved co-stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore as two characters trying their very best to live out the classic romcom. What's holding them back? Lucy's (Barrymore) short-term memory loss.

Each day resets for Lucy and Henry (Sandler) has to become accustomed to her way of living. Rather than constraining her to the one day as everyone else in her life has done, Henry attempts to help her live a true, meaningful life.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, Edge of Tomorrow is a military thriller set in a technologically advanced world as humans are fighting off alien invaders. Rather than dying when he is meant to, William Cage's (Cruise) day is reset, hence the film's other alias "Live Die Repeat." The only person who understands his situation? Fellow soldier Rita Vrataski (Blunt).

Before I Fall (2017)

Before I Fall stars Zoey Deutch as Samantha Kingston, a high school girl who seems to be living the same day over and over again. Similar to Edge of Tomorrow, Samantha's day is reset after she dies every night.

Determined to begin living her life with a purpose and choosing goodness over popularity, Samantha learns what's more important in life.

Happy Death Day (2017)

Can't get enough of death and reset films? Great, because there's still Happy Death Day.

Happy Death Day follows Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) on the day of her birthday, however the festivities are far from cheerful. Every night, a murderer in a baby face seems to be out to kill Tree and with the help of Carter Davis (Israel Broussard) she's set out to not only discover who it is, but why they're doing it.

When We First Met (2018)

When We First Met stars Adam DeVine and Alexandra Daddario as two best friends with DeVine's character Noah being head-over-heels for Avery (Daddario). However, Noah can never seem to be the one for her.

Noah gets the opportunity to win her over multiple times and eventually succeeds, but soon realizes that some people are truly not meant for one another.

Palm Springs (2020)

Starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, Palm Springs takes place on Sarah's (Milioti) sister's (Camila Mendes) wedding. Sarah meets Nyles (Samberg) and follows him to a cave where she gets stuck in a time loop that Nyles has apparently been in for a while.

Palm Springs explores what it truly means to live a meaningful life and the two different arguments Samberg and Milioti's characters present.

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)

This Amazon Prime Video stars Kathryn Newton and Kyle Allen as two teenagers stuck living the same day, however they are the only two that know.

Similar to Samberg of Palm Springs, Newton's character Margaret argues that there's no rush to find a solution, while Mark (Allen) takes the side of Milioti in Palm Springs and advocates that time is something meant to be wasted with no return.

All of these films remind us that life is meant to be lived and time is meant to be spent well. So, sit down and watch these amazing films, spend time with the ones you love, and celebrate Groundhog Day however you can.
