Hilary Duff

This is what dreams are made of! How I Met Your Mother is getting a spinoff series, and Hilary Duff is set to star as the main character.

The plotline will go as follows: Duff's character Sophie is telling her son how she met his father, and the show is a flashback to the year 2021 in which a group of friends navigates dating in a world amid dating apps and modern love.

The spinoff will be titled How I Met Your Father, will be ten episodes long, and has been picked up by Hulu.

According to a source, it is unclear how or if the show will relate to the original in any way.

Duff will also partake as a producer on the spinoff. "I've been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I'm looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie," said Duff. "As a huge fan of 'How I Met Your Mother,' I'm honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig (the HIMYM creators) would trust me with the sequel of their baby."

The HIMYM franchise has attempted to create a spinoff before, back in 2013 with How I Met Your Dad, starring Greta Gerwig, but it never got picked up.

How I Met Your Mother ran for nine seasons and 208 episodes from 2005-2014.

The release date for How I Met Your Father has yet to be announced, but stay tuned!
