Dancing With The Stars' 29th season is one of the first live shows to come back to production since the COVID-19 pandemic. Last night, the competition show had its season premiere. Here's how it went:


Our Good Looking Host

While Tom Bergeron has hosted the show since season one, this season, model and businesswoman Tyra Banks is hosting for the first time ever. Last night she made her debut in a red ballgown with gloves to match.

As for the judges, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba are back however Len Goodman could not make it back to set because of travel issues, so Derek Hough, who has danced on the show previously, stepped in.

A Paso Doble By Carole Baskin

Whoever guessed they would see Tiger King's Carole Baskin dancing on stage? Baskin and her partner Pasha Pashkov danced a paso doble to the song Eye of the Tiger. The duo didn't receive the best score, with Tonioli going tough on them, telling Baskin "You used those claws all the time, I thought you were going to dislocate your shoulder." and rating their dance a 3. The pair's score was 11/30.

A New Type of Dance For Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean

AJ McLean, former member of the Backstreet Boys, and his partner Cheryl Burke danced the Jive to The Weeknd's Blinding Lights. The two received an 18/30.

Skai Jackson Tangos In As The Youngest Contestant

18 year-old Disney star Skai Jackson wowed the judges as her and Alan Bersten danced the Tango to Nicki Minaj's Super Bass. The judges were impressed and the duo left the stage with a 21/30.

Jeannie Mai's Salsa In A Bright Neon

The Real TV host Jeannie Mai and dancing partner Brandon Armstrong danced the Salsa last night to Taylor Danye's Tell It To My Heart. They received a positive review and left the stage with an 18/30.

Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause 'a long way from closing'

Real estate agent on Netflix's Selling Sunset danced the tango with Gleb Savchenko to the song Raise Your Glass originally by P!nk. Tonioli gave them a 4, saying "I know you can sell, and you managed to get the tango into escrow, but you're a long way from closing." The duo received 13/30.

Football Tight-end Vernon Davis Loosens Up

Former NFL tight end Vernon Davis foxtrotted last night with the help of Peta Murgatroyd. Their song of choice was All of Me by John Legend. The two received a score of 17/30.

Anne Heche Cha Chas Through The Night

Psycho and soap opera actress Anne Heche performed a cha cha last night alongside dancing partner Keo Motsepe to the song Don't Start Now. The two got some positive feedback, ending the night with an 18/30 score.

Jesse Metcalfe’s Quickstep 

Desperate Housewives actor Jesse Metcalfe took to the stage with Sharna Burgess to show off their Quickstep to the song Part Time Lover by Stevie Wonder. The duo received a score of 18/30.

'The Bachelorette''s Kaitlyn Bristowe Cha Chas

The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe danced the cha cha alongside Artem Chigvintsev to Lady Gaga's Stupid Love. They got both received a positive 20/30.

Nev Schulman Catfishes Judges With The Foxtrot

Catfish host Nev Schulman took to the stage last night to dance the foxtrot with dancer Jenna Johnson. The two danced to the song The Way You Look Tonight by Michael Buble, and left with a score of 20/30.

Figure Skater Johnny Weir's Cha Cha

Olympic Figure Skater Johnny Weir Cha Cha'd with dancing partner Britt Stewart to Buttons by The Pussycat Dolls last night. The duo received a score of 20/30.

Justina Machado’s Cha Cha

One Day At A Time actress took to the stage to dance the Cha Cha with Sasha Farber last night as the two danced to Respect by Aretha Franklin. The two left the stage with a score of 21/30.

Charles Oakley’s Salsa

Former NBA star Charles Oakley showed off his salsa with dance partner Emma Slater 50 Cent's In Da Club. The two were harshly judged and received a 12/30.

Rapper Nelly Salsas To His Own Song

Rapper Nelly kept his vibe in place while dancing a salsa to his own song, Ride Wit Me. He and his dancing partner Daniella Karagach recieved a 16/30 from the judges.

Just The Beginning of Season 29

Last night we watched our first pairs make their dancing debuts, so we will have to stay tuned 'till next Tuesday to see who gets eliminated first.
