Jada Pinkett Smith honored her late friend rap icon Tupac Shakur on what would have been his 50th birthday on social media with a never-before-seen poem written by the former artist.

"As many of you know today is 'Pac's birthday," the actress said in an Instagram video. "He would have been 50 this year. And of course, you know I went down memory lane. Over the years Pac wrote me many letters and many poems and I don't think this one has ever been published honestly."

Smith believes Shukar wrote this poem during his jail time at Rikers Island in New York in 1995, a year before his passing. The poem was titled "Lost Soulz" which she believed was the original concept of Shakur's track "Lost Souls" on his "Gang Related- The Soundtrack."

Pinkett added "I don't think he would have minded if I shared it with you guys."

The two friends met at Baltimore School for the Arts, where Smith was the inspiration for many of Shakur's writings as as teen. Smith has revealed in the past that the two became friends on the first day of school and how she gravitated towards the artist in an interview with People.

"But as soon as he approached me, he was like a magnet. " The actress confessed. "Once you paid attention to him he kind of sucked you in. And we hit it off from that moment on… I don't think either one of us thought we would have made it in the way that we did, but we knew we were gonna do something."

In 2017 after the release of the "All Eyez On Me Film" which told the story of Shakur's life, Smith was not very pleased with the way she was portrayed in the film.

"Pac never said goodbye to me before leaving for LA. He had to leave abruptly and it wasn't to pursue his career. I've never been to any of Pac's shows by his request. We never had an argument backstage," Smith admitted on Twitter, "The reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful."
