Jonah Hill wants to take us back in time to the mid-1990s in his directorial debut.

Mid90s is a coming of age film set in the Los Angeles skate culture of the 1990s. Director Jonah Hill explained what the story captures.

“It’s a story about friendship, and about a time in your when it’s you and your friends versus the world.”

Katherine Waterston heaped praise on the first-time director, saying that it seemed like he had been making films for years. That sentiment was echoed by co-star Lucas Hedges.

“Jonah, I think, has the same relentless attention to detail as someone like Wes Anderson or Martin McDonagh, all of the auteurs I’ve worked with."

Hill explained that he chose Mid90s as his first film because he realized that the first films of his favorite directors were all deeply personal stories, and this is the one that spoke to him.

Mid90s is in theaters now.
