Julia Garner is Madonna!
The "Inventing Anna" actress has reportedly been offered the role of Madonna in an unreleased biopic, per Variety.
Garner was the shining star among "dozens of candidates" who were hopeful to portray the iconic singer. Names like "Euphoria" star Alexa Demie, "Tokyo Vice's" Odessa Young and "Mayor of Kingstown" actress Emma Laird were rumored to be top contenders for the role. "Midsommar" actress Florence Pugh was also rumored to be taking on the highly-anticipated role.
Universal Pictures and Madonna first announced the project in September 2020. The "Like a Virgin" singer has been hands on-in the production of the project from the start. Madonna has worked alongside Academy Award winning writer Diablo Cody in writing the script for the movie and has been assisting a team of producers including Amy Pascal, who directed "Spider-Man: No Way Home," to ensure details are authentic.
Little else is known about the untitled work. In a statement, Madonna shared:
“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
Auditions for the role were nothing short of easy. The process was reportedly described as "grueling" with hopefuls being put through choreography sessions with Madonna's own choreographer for hours. One -on-one singing rehearsals with Madonna were also included to ensure only the top contenders were considered for the role.
