Katy Perry is back on the Howard Stern show to talk about her pregnancy and new album.

This past week, singer and American Idol judge Katy Perry sat down (virtually) for an interview on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Show.

The star discusses how she came out of dark times dealing with depression upon creating her next album, Smile, and her relationship with actor Orlando Bloom as they are expecting a baby together.

“He is the only one that can handle it"

In March of this year, Katy Perry announced her pregnancy when she came out with the music video for her song, Never Worn White. She is now in her third trimester and expecting a baby girl with her fiancé, Orlando Bloom. During her interview with Howard Stern, she talks about getting ready to have her baby at any point now, and Stern mentions having talked with Bloom months prior. Perry describes her fiancé as having "an effervescent joy" which was especially helpful during Perry's dark times dealing with depression. She opens up about how her relationship with Bloom has worked because he is the only one able to help her with her depression, as she says:

"He is the only one that can handle it, I showed him all of it—and I still test him, he still shows up, he still is not fazed by it—and that is why he is perfect for me."

'Smile' As An Indication of Mental Health

At one point in the interview, Perry talks about overcoming her clinical depression. She mentions how her depression worsened to the point where she couldn't even get out of bed and had to go on medication. She describes feeling "ashamed" to have taken medication and mentions how in the past she was able to write her song, Firework, an anthem for being the best version of ourselves, to show the shift that her mental state has gone through.

Perry's next album, coming out August 14th, is titled Smile. She says that it was written during her struggles with depression and it is an album about being hopeful, resilience, and joy. She goes on to explain the meaning of the title, saying:

"A smile is such an indication of mental health, like a physical alert of your state of mental health, I think. You can see it really easily if you just observe and take a moment even with your friends and your family. Some people don't smile with their teeth, when they smile they look down, I mean there's so many ways to observe where people are at and I had really lost my smile."

From the support of her fiancé Orlando Bloom and from expressing herself through her new album, Katy Perry is ready to put on a smile again. Listen to Katy Perry's full interview on Sirius XM's The Howard Stern Showhere.
