Kelly Clarkson Files Petition to Change Name to 'Kelly Brianne'

Kelly Clarkson is starting a fresh new chapter in her life, and she'll be doing it under a different name.

Kelly Clarkson wants to legally change her name and recently filed paperwork in a Los Angeles County court to drop her last name.

According to court documents filed Monday, the "American Idol" alum stated that she has "a desire" to make her middle name her new last name.

"My new name more fully reflects who I am," she explained.

Online court records show that a hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 28.

The petition comes amid a bitter divorce battle between Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock. After nearly seven years of marriage, the "Stronger" singer filed for divorce in June 2020. They share two children, daughter River Rose, 7, and son Remington, 5.

"I mean, it's no secret," she said. "My life has been a little bit of a dumpster ... personally, it's been a little hard the last couple of months."
"I've been talking to friends that have been through a divorce. I don't know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved."

Clarkson cited "irreconcilable differences" in the divorce filing and requested joint custody of their children. In November 2020, a California judge granted her primary custody, with Blackstock being granted custody a few weekends a month.

Meanwhile, the former couple has also been embroiled in another legal battle on their professional relationship. Blackstock's company filed a lawsuit against Clarkson in September 2020 that alleged Clarkson owed the company $1.4 million in unpaid commissions for her work on "The Voice" and "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in 2020.

In response, Clarkson countersued, accusing her ex of operating illegally as her manager for years.
