Celebrity Page TV

If you're Leslie Odom Jr, you've had quite the month. Not only did him and his wife just have a new baby, but he's up for two Academy Awards for his portrayal of musician Sam Cooke in One Night in Miami.Ahead of the big show, we sat down with the eclectic actor for his thoughts!

2 Oscars for Odom?

Odom's portrayal of arch-rival/the damn fool that shot him Aaron Burr in the smash Broadway hit Hamiltonhas already earned him a Tony and a Grammy.

But that wasn't enough, because now Odom's trophy case might get some new friends with the two Oscar's he's nominated for. That would put Odom well within reach of EGOT territory.

He's nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Song.

After the song Speak Now did in fact win the Critics Choice Award for Best Original Song, we sat down with Odom to talk about how he's handling all these accolades.

"I have achieved far more than I ever thought was possible, and I'm being honest. I wanted to be in the chorus of Broadway shows, just to make a living doing this thing I love to do, that would mean the world."

Odom plays legendary musician Sam Cooke in the film that depicts a real life meeting between Cooke, Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and Jim Brown. We caught up with the real Jim Brown early last year!

"We have to go back to the simplicity of love and caring and respect, and integrity. All of those quality words apply today, and are needed."

But how does Leslie feel about all the success?

"I'm excited that One Night in Miami is part of the conversation means a lot. I'm excited to celebrate all the work that's been done, and then I'm excited to get back to work, too."

Stay humble, Leslie, we'll catch you at the Oscars!
