Last year, popstar Lizzo announced that she was looking for "big girls" to take part in a one-of-a-kind reality series she was producing. Now, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls is finally here, with Amazon Prime releasing the first trailer for the emotional, inspiring competition show.
The contest will follow plus sized dancers as they compete for spots as backup dancers on Lizzo's upcoming tour. Lizzo herself is producing and hosting the show, and can be seen in the trailer stating her mission,
"Girls that look like me don't get representation. Time to pull up my sleeves and find them myself."
The series promises an important journey of self love for an underrepresented group. One of the dancers is seen in the trailer talking about her self doubt, until she says,
"I'm realizing that I do deserve a spot on that stage."
The body-positive superstar is often hailed as paving ways for bigger girls in the world, as her presence in the industry opens doors and provides much needed representation. Lizzo knows what it's like to feel insecure and wants to provide a space to uplift plus-sized voices. She says, crying, in the trailer,
"It's hard to love yourself in a world that doesn't love you back."
Of course, it wouldn't be a reality show without drama. Big personalities are set to go head-to-head for their shot, while choreographers Tanisha Scott, Chawnta' Marie Van, Shirlene Quigley, and Grace Holden decide who makee the cut. SZA is also set to make guest appearances throughout the season.
The season will be made up of eight episodes, all available to stream through Amazon Prime. To witness the emotional journey, tune in Friday, March 25.
