The Golden-Globe-winning actor is taking on the role of "Jack Johnson" in the six-part limited series, Unruly.

Unruly tells the story of the first Black heavyweight boxing champion in the world, Jack Johnson, and his journey to success. The series will show viewers how he paved the way for Black resistance and the racial equality movement.


Dream Team

The series comes from Playtone, the production company owned by actor Tom Hanks and founded by producer Gary Goetzman. In addition to starring, Mahershala Ali is executive producing the series, alongside Mimi Valdes and Ken Burns.

A Dream Role


Mahershala Ali has previously stated that playing the boxer Jack Johnson is his "dream role." With the star studded cast of actors and producers, this series is shaping up to be a great one.
