Life in plastic looks fantastic for Margot Robbie! Warner Bros. teased Barbie fans with a glimpse of the upcoming new movie.

As part of CinemaCon happening in Las Vegas this week, Warner Bros. Pictures shared a first-look image of the Australian actress in the role of the iconic Mattel doll in a pink convertible, along with a release date for the film: July 21, 2023.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with her partner Noah Baumbach, the film is currently in production.

"People generally hear Barbie and think, 'I know what that movie is going to be,' and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they're like, 'Oh, well, maybe I don't...'" Robbie told British Vogue last year.

Initially, Barbie was set to be played by Amy Schumer, who signed on to the movie in December 2016. However, by March 2017, she had exited the project, citing scheduling conflicts. Last month, she shared that it was actually due to creative differences.

The cast includes a bunch of A-listers, including Ryan Gosling as Ken, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, and several others.

The first-ever Barbie had blond hair, blue eyes and was wearing a bathing suit. Barbie has been everything from a secretary to an astronaut and a first lady.

Barbie is just one of many upcoming Mattel adaptations. Projects based on The magic 8 Ball, "Masters of the Universe," Polly Pocket, Rock' Em Sock' Em Robots, Hot Wheels, and the throwback dolls Chatty Cathy and Betsy Wetsy are all in the works.
