Audio streaming giant Spotify has landed several podcast deals this year, but the one deal people want to know more about is the one involving the Obamas. No need for waiting any longer because it has been officially announced by the former First Lady herself that The Michelle Obama Podcast will be released on July 29, 2020 exclusively on Spotify.

"The Michelle Obama Podcast" and More!

The Michelle Obama Podcast will feature interviews and conversations between Michelle Obama and some of her family members, esteemed colleagues, friends, loved ones, and more. As noted above in Obama's announcement, she wants this podcast to be a way for people to navigate what's going on in the world, issues we deal with daily, and discovering more about ourselves and what makes us who we are.

The specific lists of guests that will be on the first season of the podcast will be her mother, Marian Robinson, and older brother Craig Robinson, TV personality Conan O'Brien, Valerie Jarrett, former adviser to President Obama, journalist Michele Norris, and Dr. Sharon Malone, wife of former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

Spotify's chief content and operating officer Dawn Ostroff released a statement announcing The Michelle Obama Podcast:

"We believe that audiences across the globe will be inspired by these most candid, most human and most personal conversations between First Lady Michelle Obama and her guests."

In addition to the announcement of the first project under Spotify's major content deal with the Obamas, the audio streaming service has acquired four major podcast companies—Parcast, Gimlet Media, Anchor, and Bill Simmons' The Ringer—announced a deal with Kim Kardashian West for a new criminal justice reform podcast, and most famously, The Joe Rogan Experience podcast will debut exclusively on Spotify in September of this year. All of these deals acquired in the last year and a half total almost $600 million altogether.

The Michelle Obama Podcast will be the first project produced by Higher Ground Media, formed in 2018 and founded by Barack and Michelle Obama. This production company will produce projects for Spotify and Netflix since the Obamas have multi-year content deals with both of the popular streaming services.
