Fans have been speculating over whether two popular ABC sitcoms will live on as spinoffs or end for good.

'Modern Family'

With 11 seasons of fresh family comedy, Modern Family has brought in the laughs since 2009. After 18 Primetime Emmy Awards, the show aired its finale on April 8th. Recently, there have been talks of a spin off centering the adored gay couple from the show, Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson).

In an interview with Deadline, president of ABC Entertainment, Karey Burke explained that the spinoff has had strong support at ABC for the past few years and that the network remains high on the idea. This is likely due to writers Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan's comments following the finale. They both mentioned how the show's ending making room for a spinoff, with the couple moving to Missouri. Lloyd talks about the possibility and says:

"Will that happen? I'm not sure but we would be probably dumb to not explore it. However, doing a spinoff is fraught in a lot of ways and we won't do it unless we feel confident there's something there, I don't want to say it's a long shot, it's under discussion but we'll see."

'Fresh Off The Boat'

In the hit sitcom, the Asian-American Huang family adjusts to life in suburban Orlando through six seasons of growing up. First airing in 2015, the finale of Fresh Off The Boat aired on February 21st. Throughout the show, we see an Indian family, that of Eddie Huang's classmate, with Preity Zinta and Vir Das as the parents. Titled Magic Motor Inn, a pilot of the potential spinoff has already been written by Rachna Fruchbom, with these two actors to star in it. Along with the Modern Family spinoff, a Fresh Off The Boat spinoff was also liked by the network, but has yet to be put in action. Burke comments on the idea and says:

"The Fresh off the Boat spinoff that was developed this season did not ultimately come together. I think, in a way that the teams wanted to, so it is not at the moment moving forward"

After two great finales, Modern Family and Fresh Off The Boat have come to an end but there is still hope for more family-bonding content!
