On this segment of What's Trending, Celebrity Page talks to the stars of the newly released Netflix film, Rebecca.

Rebecca | Official Trailer | Netflix

The film is a modern adaptation to Daphne Du Maurier's 1938 gothic novel. Alfred Hitchcock directed the original Rebecca film in 1940, and now the story is getting to be retold again.

Lily James and Armie Hammer play the main characters of Mrs. DeWinter and Maxim DeWinter. According to Netflix's synopsis, "a young newlywed moves to her husband's imposing estate, where she must contend with his sinister housekeeper and the haunting shadow of his late wife."

Although James and Hammer are replacing the original actors Laurence Oliver and Joan Fontaine, Hammer believes it's a completely different movie than the first:

"You think about it - but at the end of the day, it was a different time, different director, different movie, different everything, so it's like, I can't be beholden to that too much. We're trying to do our own thing over here."
Hammer also mentioned that the movie discusses several emotional struggles and issues that any viewer will be able to relate to - no matter what era it is.

The 'sinister housekeeper,' also known as Mrs. Danvers, is played by Oscar nominee Kristin Scott Thomas. When talking about how she wants viewers to perceive her character, she said:

"I didn't want people to forgive her - to forgive Mrs. Danvers. I wanted her to really be so scared of her and not like it when she's in the room, and 'please go away now.'"

Emmy winner Ann Dowd, who is known for her character from A Handmaid's Tale, also torments Lily Jame's character in the film as Mrs. Van Hopper. She explained how fun it was to be mean in the movie:

"Lily James is so lovely, so good - and as I've said before, I wish I could say it was hard to be mean to her, but it was a blast."

Be sure to watch Rebecca, streaming now on Netflix and even in select theatres.
