It's a big weekend for new movie releases.

Today as we pause to remember what would have been John Lennon's 80th birthday, we can celebrate the cooler fall air, the early voting underway in many states the ton of new movies that just opened. There's also a few new streaming projects as well. Here's your weekend binge list...


John Lennon's 80th Birthday on YouTube

From live-streamed tribute concerts to new blu-ray and box sets, there's no shortage of ways to celebrate what would have been John's 80th birthday. If you really want a good cry, check out the movie Yesterday where John (sort of) makes an appearance (spoiler alert). Happy birthday John, we miss you!

The Right Stuff on Disney Plus

Relive the space race all over again, in this new version of the story written by Tom Wolfe (and based on the 1983 movie). The series is streaming now on Disney+ and be sure to check out our new interview with co-star Eloise Mumford this weekend on Advocate Channel.

From the Vine on VOD

Mark Gentile, an attorney and automotive company executive, travels to Italy after a major humiliation in business. He returns to the tiny village of Acerenza, visiting the vineyard where he grew up and finds it in a state of disrepair. Mark gets an idea to bring the overgrown property back to life and start producing wine again. Mark convinces various denizens of Acerenza, each with their own comedic personality, to aid him in this seemingly impractical effort, promising everyone a share in the business if it is successful. Concerned about his sudden and lengthy trip, Mark is joined by his wife Marina, and his twenty-something daughter, Laura, who's purpose is lost. But when Mark gets a serious offer to run another company, he abruptly packs up and heads home, leaving his daughter to run the winery, something she never planned to do as a career. Laura is furious with Mark, but then learns that his choice will ultimately benefit the vineyard and bring true prosperity to Acerenza.

Time in theaters

Fox Rich is a fighter. The entrepreneur, abolitionist and mother of six boys has spent the last two decades campaigning for the release of her husband, Rob G. Rich, who is serving a 60-year sentence for a robbery they both committed in the early 90s in a moment of desperation. Combining the video diaries Fox has recorded for Rob over the years with intimate glimpses of her present-day life, director Garrett Bradley paints a mesmerizing portrait of the resilience and radical love necessary to prevail over the endless separations of the country's prison-industrial complex.

TIME is coming to theaters October 9, and to Prime Video October 16th.

YELLOW ROSE is the timely story of a Filipina teen from a small Texas town who fights to pursue her dreams as a country music performer while having to decide between staying with her family or leaving the only home she has known.

The War With Grandpa in theaters

Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid—he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter's family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won't go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.

Based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith, The War with Grandpa is a hilarious family comedy featuring an all-star supporting cast: Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Cheech Marin and Jane Seymour.

PBS KIDS Talk About: Race & Racism

The new special, "PBS KIDS Talk About: Race & Racism," premieres October 9! The half-hour program will feature authentic conversations between real children and their parents, and will include content from PBS KIDS series Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Arthur and Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. The show will feature kids and their parents talking about race and racial justice-related topics in an age-appropriate way, such as noticing differences in race, understanding what racism can look like, and embracing the role we all have to play in standing up for ourselves and each other — offering viewers ideas to build on as they continue these important conversations at home.

The Carousel of Hope Virtual Ball on YouTube

Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Jane Fonda, Samuel L. Jackson, Cynthia Erivo and more will join the live 2020 Carousel of Hope Ball, which is dedicated to raising funds for clinical care and diabetes research at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.

The star-studded charity ball will celebrate host Barbara Davis' 90th birthday and the 40th anniversary of the center. Jay Leno will be acting as master of ceremonies, with David Foster serving as music director.

There will also be special appearances by many of Hollywood's biggest stars including Tony Bennett, Dame Joan Collins, Robert De Niro, Josh Groban, Quincy Jones, Adam Lambert, Rob Lowe, Barry Manilow, Diane Warren, Dionne Warwick and more.

Comedian Bill Burr hosts on Saturday and get ready for Maya Rudolph (and a fly) to take down Mike Pence. But, we won't see singer Morgan Wallen as the musical guest. He was dropped, after being seen on social media, partying and violating Coronavirus safety protocols. Singer Jack White will be the new musical guest, instead.

Halloween Wars Finale on Food Network
