It's no secret that Olivia Munn has a lot on her plate right now. Our Rachel Smith sat down with Munn and her co-star Shea Whigham to chat about their new crime thriller The Gateway.
The Gateway follows a social worker, Whigham, who gets wrapped up in the personal life of one of his clients: a single mom played by Munn. When asked if the unique perspective of the character attracted him to the role, Whigham said:
"I thought that was a really interesting approach. He can't take care of himself, so he chooses to throw everything into that which leads him to Olivia."
Munn had this to say about her character:
"This was a little movie so Shea right now is in London. We're talking to him in London right now as he is doing Mission Impossible. So that is a big set up. And then ours is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum."
"So for us to do all of that action like everything you saw in there actually happened. There were no like camera tricks or anything. We as actors had to sit together and say we need this to be emotionally charged."
Shea Whigham is of course known for his dramatic roles in such television series as Fargo and True Detective. But Olivia Munn has had her fair share of dramatic roles as well.
"When you're wearing a cowboy hat and a red leather jacket, I mean, where is it going? I often say it is so much more fun and so much more complex. You get a lot of leeway."
That was Frank Grillo on his antagonistic role. Grillo is known for his appearances as Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also plays a leading role in The Purge series. So a badass role like this is totally in his wheelhouse.
