Scott Alda Coffey On "The Outpost"

The Outpost, released on July 3, is a film about a true story of U.S. soldiers fighting together against Taliban forces at an outpost in Afghanistan. Already receiving critical acclaim and a 91% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, this film is surely a contender for awards season. Scott Alda Coffey plays Michael Scusa in the film, and this is his first role in a major motion picture. When talking to Advocate Channel about his experience, Coffey says:

"Being able to be in my first major picture, being with Orlando Bloom, was pretty incredible. [...] I was astounded that I hadn't heard of this battle before. It was considered one of the bloodiest American engagements in the current 19-year Afghanistan war. Hopefully now, more people will know the names of the fallen and the soldiers that fought for this country."

Coffey is the grandson of famous M*A*S*Hstar and 6-time Emmy-award winning actor, Alan Alda. The eldest Alda gives his grandson, Coffey, advice from time to time about being in the entertainment industry and what acting is truly all about. Coffey shares how he feels about having Alda as his mentor, and what it's like seeing him in action:

"I'm so lucky to have him as a grandfather. He's been an inspiration to me. He inspires me, not just as an actor, but also as a person. [...] Watching him on The West Wing, he was kind of the character you were supposed to be rooting against for sort of because he was the opposing candidate, but yet he brought such a generousness and kindness to the role. To me, that's really cool."
