Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride' (2005)

Director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton's animated musical stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Emily Watson. Corpse Bride follows Victor (Depp) whose parents arranged a marriage with Victoria (Watson). While preparing in the woods for their wedding, a tree branch transforms into a hand and snatches Victor underground to the land of the dead. The hand belongs to Emily (Bonham Carter) who was murdered after eloping with her previous love. The scary movie follows Victor as he desperately strives to return aboveground to marry Victoria before she marries villain Barkis Bittern (Richard E. Grant).

Despite the film's age, viewers continue to enjoy the character development and musical arrangement. Danny Elfman composed the entire movie's soundtrack which advanced the plot through its catchy tunes.

The movie scored an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes with many critics providing positive reviews.

Top critic Stella Papamichael from BBC wrote:

"If you have a pulse, you'll love it."

Mike Massie wrote:

"A sweet, moving fantasy, clearly geared towards adults over kids - a quality many of the most effective children's diversions tend to follow."

The movie's themes center around acceptance of death and bring up interesting dialogue surrounding the idea of arranged marriage.
