2021 People's Choice Awards: Big Winners And Big Moments

On Tuesday night, E! and NBC aired the 47th annual People's Choice Awards, and there's a lot to unpack.

The People's Champion of 2021

For starters, the biggest moment came when Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson brought the house down with his acceptance speech for People's Champion. Johnson was introduced by the richest man in America, Jeff Bezos, whom he referred to as his drinking buddy. He went on to reflect on his wrestling roots and told a story about how Muhammad Ali gave Johnson his blessing to take on the People's Champion title. Then, Johnson did something amazing; he brought a girl on stage who was in the audience because of Make A Wish. Put simply, there was not a dry eye in the audience. Johnson proved that he really is indeed the People's Champion. He went on to receive two more awards for The Male Movie Star of 2021 and The Comedy Movie Star of 2021.

The People's Icon of 2021

Another legendary actor was honored with another special award. The great Halle Berry accepted the award for People's Icon last night with a short and sweet speech. She was introduced by Cardi B, whom she showed great respect for. In the speech, she gave a shoutout to the people, or the fans, for keeping her on screen. She also sent love to her kids watching at home and encouraged them to do what they love.

The Fashion Icon of 2021

Kim Kardashian West is a someone who is constantly setting trends and some may say she was one of the first ever influencers. For that, Kim was honored with the Fashion Icon award. She started off by giving props to her fellow fashion icon, Tracee Ellis Ross, who introduced her. Then she went on to give her husband Kanye a shoutout for introducing her to the fashion world. Kim also won Reality Show of 2021 for Keeping Up With The Kardashians which she accepted with her mom and sister Khloe, who later accepted the award for Reality Star of 2021.

The Music Icon of 2021

As far as music awards go, Christina Aguilera was named the People's Music Icon. The 5-time-Grammy-Award-winner defined a generation in the 90s with songs like 'Beautiful' and 'Fighter'. She said that her intention was to make music for people facing adversity. She went on to thank those people for giving her the opportunity to receive such an award.

The Daytime Talk Show of 2021

For its 19th and final season, The Ellen Degeneres Show was named The Daytime Talkshow of 2021. This marks Ellen's 25th People's Choice Award. The comedienne joked that she couldn't have imagined getting any more than 23. Jojo Siwa, who is currently breaking boundaries for the LGBTQ community as the first partner in a same sex duo on Dancing With The Stars, presented the award to Ellen. It is only right that Jojo do the honors because Ellen was obviously a trailblazer for the LGBTQ community of her generation. Ellen closed out her speech by encourage those watching at home to be themselves.

The Male TV Star of 2021

The God of mischief himself, Tom Hiddleston was named The Male TV Star of 2021 for his portrayal of the title character in the hit series Loki. Hiddleston has been playing this beloved character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his appearance in 2011's Thor. Hiddleston made a heartfelt effort to thank what seemed like each and every individual member of the cast and crew. However, it was not lost on him just how much of an effect the 'people' have on his ability to play Loki.

The Female Movie Star of 2021

It was a big night for Marvel as Scarlett Johansson went on to accept the award for The Female Movie Star of 2021. The woman behind Black Widow made a point to shoutout the "badass woman that [she] worked with" including her co-stars, Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz. Johannson was honored by the idea that this was the 'People's' Choice Award because after all, actors make movies for, well, the people.

The Action Star of 2021

But the Marvel love didn't stop there! Simu Liu, was named The Action Star of 2021 for his role in Shang Chi. It's been a big year for Liu, who became Marvel's first Chinese-American superhero in the blockbuster film. He joked in his speech that his parents probably accounted for most of the votes. On a more serious note, he credited his success with giving himself permission to do what he loved. He ended his speech by motivating others to do the same.
