The Story of Luca

'Luca'

Disney+

Luca follows the life of a young boy in the summer of Portorosso, Italy, who is more than what may appear on the surface. Disney describes the animation by stating,

"a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water's surface."

An Unforgettable Cast and Crew

Jacob Tremblay of the Oscar-winning film Room (2015) and Wonder (2017) will be voicing the lead role Luca Paguro. Jack Dylan Grazer of It (2017) will be playing Alberto Scorfano, Emma Berman as Giulia Marcovaldo, and Italian comedian Saverio Raimondo will be voicing the town bully Ercole Visconti.

The adults of the film include comedian Maya Rudolph as Luca's mom Daniela, Jim Gaffigan as Luca's dad Lorenzo, Sandy Martin of Napoleon Dynamite (2004) as Luca's grandma, Marco Barricelli of The Book of Daniel (2006) as Giulia's dad Massimo, and Giacomo Gianniotti, known as Dr. DeLuca of Grey's Anatomy (2005-), as a local fisherman.

As if the production couldn't get better, the animation is directed by Oscar nominee Enrico Casarosa of "La Luna" (2011), produced by Andrea Warren of Cars 3 (2017), and composed by Dan Romer of Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012).

Pixar Animation Studios' 24th feature film Luca streams on Disney+ June 18.
