David Mixner is a well known civil rights activist and author fighting for LGBTQ inclusivity, equal rights and environmental sustainability. Barilla is one of the best known family food brands in the world. Together, they're serving up progress on the diversity front!

As one of the world's most recognized brands, Barilla products are found in homes and loved all around the world. But back in 2013, not every home was happy with the brand. The company drew controversy with the LGBTQ community and their allies. Following that day, the company recognized its mistake and pledged to do better, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Barilla now has achieved a 100% rating in each of the last six years with the Human Rights Council Corporate Equality Index.

In addition, David Mixner serves on the company's Global Diversity and Inclusion Board. The board consists of activists of different backgrounds who aim to promote equal rights and opportunities.

Mixner explained:

"They made some mistakes about six or seven years ago on diversity and inclusion. Instead of issuing the usual press release of 'oh, we're sorry and we'll do better in the future" and then just moving on...because of the leadership of Guido Barilla- he said that's not acceptable. He made a mistake. So, not only are we gonna correct that mistake, but we're gonna become the best in the field of diversity and inclusion of any company in the world. And guess what, in six years, they've done that."

The company will continue to rely on Mixner and the rest of the board to continue "creating a more diverse, committed and engaged workforce; enhancing an open culture that embraces and celebrates differences."
