Prince Philip

Earlier this week, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband to Queen Elizabeth II, passed away after a month long health battle. Now, funeral proceedings are in place ahead of Philip's final goodbye.

No Military Uniforms Will Be Worn

Despite most of the men in the royal family are honorary military members, everyone will be in mourning garb at the ceremony. This is to avoid embarrassment in behalf of Prince Andrew, who relinquished his military titles after his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Prince Harry also had his honorary military titles removed after he and wife Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties.

In order to avoid embarrassment and distract from the funeral, all senior Royals, namely Charles and William, will be in funeral attire rather than military along with Harry and Andrew.

How the Service Will Work

Members of the Royal Family will walk behind Prince Philip's coffin, which will be in a specially adapted Land Rover SUV that Philip himself helped design. They will leave the front entrance of Windsor Castle and walk eight minutes alongside the coffin to St George's Chapel, where the funeral itself will take place.

In order to comply with the government's mandated COVID rules, only thirty people will be in attendance at the ceremony.

Don't Expect Drama

It seems the goal of the Royal Family, and rightfully so, is to put aside any drama, namely that surrounding Harry's recent interview with Oprah, aside for the funeral.

The Queen is currently in an eight day period of mourning for her late husband, the end of which is the funeral proceedings mentioned above. Afterwards, she returns to her Royal duties, as does the rest of the family.
