Ryan Reynolds Takes A Sabbatical From Acting After Filming 'Spirited'

Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively

It's official. Ryan Reynolds has decided to take a sabbatical from acting and communicated the shocking news via Instagram.

Three years ago, Ryan Reynolds had agreed to work on the Christmas movie Spirited, but now filming's officially over.

Through a series of slideshows with crew and cast members, Reynolds announced his decision to take a sabbatical from acting, recognizing the talent of those who worked with him on the project.

"Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I'm gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists."

But Reynolds' not the only star of the movie. Alongside his character, Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer shine as well. Reynolds expressed his gratitude for the opportunity of working with both actors.

"Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer..."

The comment section was filled with love and support from Reynold's colleagues and friends, such as Hugh Jackman, Ava DuVernay and Octavia Spencer.

But perhaps the funniest comment of all, is the one from Reynold's wife, actress Blake Lively, who wrote:

"Michael Caine did it first."

This is certainly not the first time that the couple interacts through funny comments on social media. Fans tend to be on the lookout whenever a birthday of one of the two gets closer.

Lively's hilarious comment referenced Michael Caine for going viral this past weekend. Rumors had spread that the actor had the intention of retiring from acting after his latest film Best Sellers.

On Saturday October 16th, however, the actor clarified the situation tweeting:

"I haven't retired and not a lot of people know that."

Spirited will be a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and is set to be released by Apple TV+ in the future. For now, Reynolds hasn't specified how long the sabbatical is going to take, but fans are certainly going to miss him on the big screen.
